Reckless Reading

Lucy, 17. I love reading books.

January Wrap-Up

I’m really surprised by the amount of books I managed to read this month.

136184401. Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor ☆☆☆.5 /5 stars

It liked it, it was a good final book for the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy but I had a problem with this trilogy since the first book. The books were beautifully written but I felt suffocated in her prose and the romance between Akiva and Karou annoyed me so much. In fewer words, the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy was waaaay to cheesy for me.

I’ve got to admit Laini Taylor’s imagination is amazing. It was a good fantasy book, although at times boring (at least for me).

230100732.  Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods by Rick Riordan ☆☆☆☆☆/5 stars

“So here we go. First I’ll tell you how the world got made. Then I’ll run down a list of gods and give you my two cents about each of them. I just hope I don’t make them so mad the incinerate me before I — AGGHHHHHHHHH! Just kidding. Still here.”

I laughed so much while reading this and I learned so much! I wish all my textbooks where narrated by Percy, he’s so sassy.

I admire how Rick Riordan can make Greek mythology be comical but not making it feel forced or not authentic at all.

172346583. A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray ☆☆☆☆☆/5 stars

loved this book.

I was scared to pick up this book because the hype around it but gods I was wrong. The plot and cover (Its gorgeous) drew me in months before the actual release of the book! Its a fantastic first book for the series and I can’t wait to the next one to come.

187052094. The Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan ☆☆☆☆☆/5 stars

Gods of Olympus! I loved this series so much!!

Rick Riordan never lets me down! I can’t explain how much I loved these books. So sad its over ): But I’m really excited for Magnus Chase and The Gods of Asgard, though I’m going to miss the Greek mythology.

172623845. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness ☆☆☆☆☆/5 stars

“You do not write your life with words, the monster said. You write it with actions. What you think is not important. It’s only important what you do.”

The story was dark, heartbreaking and real. Definitely one of my favorites this month.

173329696. The 100 by Kass Morgan ☆☆☆/5 stars

The book lacked from world-bulding, it had an excessive amount of flashbacks, i don’t get whats the point about Glass in the story, and the characters are so different form the way they are at the tv show. I expected so much of Bellarke because I love them, but Bellamy isn’t the strong leader he is in the show and Clarke is like a little girl with boy problems. So annoying! I guess watching the show first, and reading a lot of reviews about this book helped me to lower my expectations about it, still I’m confused how I feel about it… I guess it made me love the show a lot more.

96277557. Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins ☆☆☆☆☆/5 stars

This book was sooo cute! Perfect conclusion for the series/companionship.

The plot was predictable and clichéd, as well as in the other two books, but it was just what I needed and expected from Stephanie Perkins. Definitely a book I’ll be wanting to re-read in the future.

10425428. Sabriel by Garth Nix ☆☆☆☆/5 stars

“Let this be my final lesson. Everyone and everything has a time to die.”

I saw a lot of mixed reviews about this book which made me hesitate a little when I picked this up but this book was wonderful! At first, I felt the book was kind of slow and I had no idea of what was going on but as the story continued I started getting really into it. I enjoyed this a lot more that I thought I would.
